The Texas Rangers season starts on Thursday with the opener in Philadelphia against the Phillies. Among the offseason changes the Rangers made, one that didn’t generate much noise was signing 39-year-old veteran Andrew McCutchen to a free agent contract in March. On Tuesday, the Rangers said McCutchen, who won the 2013 National MVP, is on the Opening Day roster. Before the Rangers’ exhibition game against the Kansas City Royals on Monday night, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker spoke why McCutchen is on the team.
